TECH. GO GREEN!

The birth of what we know as media today all started with the newspaper. During the colonial times in the United States, the newspaper was the only way to distribute news and information. For the British colonist that were stationed in the colonies, newspapers were the only form of media they had to know what was going on back in their home country of England. Now technology has gotten so advance to a point where there are application in phones strictly dedicated to the news. The iPhone has an Associated Press application that is free to download compared to the 35 cent to a newspaper.

Due to the new advancements in technology I dont think the newspaper industry can survive on paper for too long. Accoridn to New York Times the circulation of newpaper has decline 9% over the 2005 year. As technology continues to improve and become more mobile the drive to wake up early just to get a newspaper will seize to exist.

However books are totally different. With books although new technology is emerging the e-book as the paperless and easier way to read a book, I still feel that books have such a old and traditional history that will never eliminate it. Reading a book online would not have the same feel as reading from a book. The book has been the longest running medium to date, and I don't think anything will stop its esteemed and antique history.

The situation the newspaper is facing is the fact that it takes to much space and time. A person would have to wake up, drive to a newsstand, and pull out his/her wallet to pay for the newspaper. Not even considering the fact that person might have to break a full dollar bill just for a couple sheets of paper that will be tossed out after the main news stories are read. Newspapers are filled with stories and subjects that dont cater to everyone. Section such as the Arts and Craft, or even the Sports dont entertain everyone the same way. With today's technologies like the internet, readers can select what news they would like to hear about, instead of flipping through continuous newspapers to find the continuation to a story that started on the first page. With technologies these days you can skip this strenuous process and jump straight to the section that you are interested in. In addition to that you can take it on the go and not worry about wasting paper. We are entering a society where everything is Go Green to save our environment...and this just might be the way to do it.

A LETTER TO RADIO

Dear Radio,

We use to be so close, what happened to us. I remember the times when we use to gather in the living room, and watch you vibrantly lit up as beautiful music jumped out of your sides. It always brought joy to my ears to cut out all of the distractions and listen to you. One morning I went down, and you were gone…and in your place…a big screen TV, with moving characters on it. I cried my heart out to my parent asking where you’d go. Then my mother pointed to the top of the dresser. You’ve shrunk, big time: and from that point on I knew that I was losing you. As I got older you went form a huge Jukebox that everybody enjoyed to watch to a little clip-on that you can buy from the dollar store. Everybody is trying to replace you according to how advance technology is getting. Whatever happened to us radio, you use to be grand scale; but now you are just an American pastime.

THERE IS AN APP FOR THAT!

Technology is becoming real dangerous. At least that’s what I thought at the moment. I was using my roommate's laptop surfing the web, then all of a sudden the power of the laptop went to sleep. In a search for answers and also planning out the perfect excuse for why its not working the laptop turns back on. A sigh of relief came upon me and stopped my heart from beating rapidly. The computer (all by its self) pulled up a Microsoft Word document and started tying jumbled up words "dhfhihdinshbfbhehsjdfgvdbsdnvdsohdfuhvuifndsdhbsfnbdf" down the page. And then the computer concluded with these three worlds that struck fear in my heart..."I-See-You"! Then I heard a huge laugh coming from the room. It turns out that my roommate was controlling the functions of his Apple laptop through his iPhone telephone. The iPhone/iPOD touch is a little harmless gadget that will soon control the whole world. The Apple iPhone/iPOD touch is one of those gadgets that you can’t leave the house without. Every time I leave the house I always pat my pockets "phone, wallet, keys, ipod!" Its gets to a point where some of us will turn the car back around to get our iPOD from the place we left it.

I performed a little study that clearly shows the effects of the Apple iPHONE/iPOD on our lives. I asked a group of people a question: "If they were stranded on an island, and you were only allowed to bring three things what would it be? The data of the study showed that everyone had an iPOD touch as the item they would bring on their list. Either somewhere in their top three or even worst…as their top 1; before items like a Lifetime supply of Food, or something to consume that would allow humans to survive. We'll in this crazy world we live in; there is probably an app for that, because there is an app for everything else. Dark on the island? There is a an app for that!(BACKLIGHT V.2) Need entertainment..There are a plethora of apps for that!(TAP TAP REVENGE). Need to finish an essay for your communications class? There is an app for that!(WORDPAD). Need to find the hottest club on the island. There is an app for that! Need to find your way back to civilization?...there is definitely an app for that(GPS). The iPOD/iPHONE is one gadget that would make being stranded on an island...a breeze::for about 2 hours (depending on how charged and advanced your iPOD is)
